Academic Enrichment
In this section:
The Black Male Achievers (BMA) Program at Tallahassee State College offers its members a wide variety of academic support and student services along with personal enrichment activities to advance intellectual and personal growth. BMA offers an array of seminars and other activities that reflect, celebrate, and motivate minority men.
The mission of BMA is designed to empower and educate minority men on improving the retention rates and the importance of the successful completion of their post-secondary aspirations through the practices of academic, social, and occupational excellence.
The BMA Program provides mentoring, academic advising, and academic and professional skill development via workshops and guest speakers all with the objective of helping our student members accomplish their goals of earning an associate degree, transferring to a university, and/or entering the workforce.
Each member is expected to attend weekly meetings/workshops, BMA/Student Success Alliance activities, and actively participate in community service opportunities. BMA members may also be eligible to apply for the Student Success Mentoring Alliance Program Scholarship.
The many services and activities are designed to help student members:
- develop leadership skills
- develop an awareness of one’s cultural, academic, and professional identity
- develop an understanding of self-efficacy and self-branding
- learn how to network
- demonstrate how to participate responsibly in the local community
