The Tallahassee Community College Foundation announced a $200,000 gift to benefit its workforce development programs. The donor has chosen to remain anonymous. The announcement was made at the Tallahassee Community College District Board of Directors Meeting on Monday, Nov. 16, 2021. The gift will be used to fund ten welding booths in the new Welding Lab opening in January and Wakulla Workforce Scholarships, 35 full-tuition scholarships in the trades for residents of Wakulla County.
“This investment will do two critical things,” said Heather Mitchell, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at TCC and Executive Director of the TCC Foundation. “It will ensure that TCC’s growing welding program will be able to meet the needs of area employers by offering students a state-of-the-art learning environment. It will also provide a pathway for Wakulla County residents to further their education, obtain in-demand certifications, and increase their skill sets leading to high-paying job opportunities.”
Wakulla Workforce Scholarships will be available for the following programs: one Medical Administrative Assistant, one Applied Cybersecurity, one CNC Machining, one Industrial Machining Maintenance, 3 HVAC, 13 Welding, and 15 Truck Driving. Individuals interested in applying for one of the Wakulla Workforce Scholarships should contact TCC2WORK at [email protected] or (833) TCC-JOBS.
“In the current climate of worker shortages, it has become even more critical that we place a laser focus on the skilled trades and the training necessary to produce workers ready to enter the workforce,” stated Kimberly A. Moore, VP for Workforce Innovation and TCC2WORK, “We are thankful for our recent donor who shares in our commitment of investing in others and changing lives one person at a time.”
