Leon County Commissioner Kristin Dozier had the opportunity to work at her family’s construction business while earning her associate degree at Tallahassee Community College before transferring to the university system. Dozier gained on-the-job training at various job sites but said the building construction management program at TCC offers a workforce training component to students.
“If the building construction management program at TCC had been available when I enrolled at the College, I think I would’ve jumped at the chance,” Dozier said. “I would have taken advantage of the opportunity to increase my skills and advance my career in construction.”
Affordability, attentive professors and an intimate class size attracted Dozier to TCC.
“I decided to attend TCC because it offered smaller classes, a lot of flexibility so I could work while I was in school and it cost less than other colleges,” she said. “I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. TCC was the perfect place for me to explore my options and find out what I was and wasn’t interested in pursuing.
Dozier said she recommends anyone interested in the building construction management profession to pursue their education at TCC. “I would encourage others – especially young women – to consider a career in construction and take advantage of the programs offered by TCC that allow you to go straight into the workforce and start building your career,” Dozier said.
